<reviewbody>Excellent cinematography and beautiful sets make this rather tiresome zombie drama worth watching.

Bela Lugosi plays a thoroughly evil zombie master in Haiti. He conspires with a plantation owner who wants to make the bride of an eloping couple his own. Soon, the plantation owner is dissatisfied with his zombie bride and wants Lugosi to free her. Lugosi decides to control them both, but his plot his foiled in the end. Many of the poses and gestures Lugosi assumes here I've seen used in several of his later films.

I downloaded the mpeg1 file. The film is in fine shape, though frames are missing here and there and the audio recording leaves dialog difficult to understand at times.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>I have three other copies of this movie, and the quality of this download is by far the best. The video is also nice and clean. The storyline is actually father nice, with Lugosi playing his usual evil character. This time he creates pseudo-zombies by giving his victims a drug which simulates death and destroys the subjects will. He gets involved with a white Haitian land baron who has fallen in love with a young woman he met on a cruise ship, and who he invited to his house, where she is to married to another man the same day. The lande baron appeals to Lugosi for help, with predictable but entertaing results. Quite a nice hour's watching.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>This film was made in 1932 and it was the first time they used the word zombie for the undead, another famous movie was the 1943 release I walked with a zombie. The best part of the film is the scene in the sugar-plant,with the turning wheel and his very scary sounds.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>A must-have movie... I'd pay money for this one but it is free! I can't believe it. Beautifully filmed, with excellent acting, atmospheric and compelling. Still gripping today! The screen shots are unforgettable. Any horror buff will love this one! Bela Lugosi, of course, is wonderful. It is a movie one can happily watch over and over, because the artistry is so beautiful.</reviewbody>
